Are you pissed off about your Property Taxes in New Brunswick??
Charles,
Didn't see a blog about the property taxes so here goes for my little increase this year..........I am assessed at $114,000.00, up a paltry $11,000.00 from last year !! I dug out all my tax bills and since 2003 to 2010, my assessment has soared by $45,100.....The kicker being I live in the service district of Simonds which is 45 klms from the city of Saint John.....The most major improvements were mae in 2007 when the government offered the interest free loans to make your home more energy efficient, only I used my own money and put in new windows and doors and siding to a total cost of $13,000........So the message here folks I guess is do not improve or Shawn Graham will make you pay for it in the long run..No energy savings as they upped the power bills. When I applied to get at least a rebate on some of the work, but S. Jamieson office(my MLA) said I didn't qualify as I did not have the government inspector assess my house first before doing the energy saving improvements......So this Graham government gets you coming and going and you are still in the hole. So I guess we can get Mr Graham come September and kick his sorry butt to the curb, before the our province is bankrupt and we need China to bail us out.................MJH
thanks....mjmax@xplornet.com

Acadian is moving its terminal out of the Moncton Downtown area!!!

P.S. CAN SOMEONE FROM THE MONCTON AREA GO AND TAKE SOME PICTURES OF THE TERMINAL AND EMAIL THEM TO ME AT -oldmaison@yahoo.com
Merci...
Charles,
Yes, it's true. I took the bus from Moncton two weeks ago and one of the bus drivers said that Acadian is moving its terminal out of the downtown area. If it's anything like Fredericton, you can expect a 6 km drive and a ten dollar taxi fare to get to the g*d d**m bus terminal.
Well, that's just GREAT! I use the Acadian Bus Lines all the time to get to the North Shore so my way of getting back at those jerks for destroying inter-city passenger service from Fredericton to the North was to take the bus to Moncton, then hop on the train which will get me to my destination about 8:30 pm. Yes, I'd still have a few hours wait in Moncton, but I didn't want to give those b******s another red cent and if I'm going to spend money, I may as well buy myself a drink on the train!
Another part of the appeal was that the bus terminal was within walking distance of the train station. Now I'll have to take a GD taxi to the train station, adding more to my travel costs (on top of the 10 dollars it takes me to get to Fredericton's terminal at 85 Hubbard Road by taxi).
Acadian has basically doubled the cost of travel for people who don't have a vehicle. These shysters are getting away with bloody murder and nobody is doing anything about it.
I made an official complaint to the Energy and Utilities Board last year when they tried to move the bus station out of Fredericton'd downtown core but it all amounted to piffle. I didn't even bother to make a complaint this time, it's a waste of time. This company is so powerful - and the Energy and Utilities Board a rubber stamp machine - they can do whatever they please and to hell with New Brunswickers.
Since this is how a Quebec based company treats New Brunswickers, all I can say is god save us when it comes to NB Power. Perhaps it's time for all of us to get off the grid and find alternative sources of energy and give these guys the big middle finger because that's what they deserve.
As Peter Sellers would say "FARGIN BASIDGES!"
The way Quebecers are treating New Brunswickers with their Bus Service? What will they do once they take over NB Power???

These are facts with Acadian Bus Line!!!
New Brunswickers should be very concern with Hydro-Quebec!!!!

Why did former MP received such a low sentence????

N-D-P Leader Jack Layton says a lot of Canadians are probably shaking their heads. I know I am.
Former Conservative M-P and husband of cabinet minister Helena Guergis.
Rahim Jaffer was fined 500 dollars yesterday after pleading guilty to careless driving. What has the opposition so upset is the fact that - in a plea deal - the crown dropped charges of impaired driving and
possession of cocaine.
The Liberals are calling on the federal government to order an appeal.
They accuse the Conservatives of being hypocritical with their get-tough-on-crime agenda.
As an M-P Jaffer supported tougher penalties for drunk drivers. And Liberal M-P Ujjal Dosanjh says the plea bargain flies in the face of the Conservative mantra of ensuring people do serious time for committing serious crimes.
Dosanjh says the government should stand behind its own crime agenda and order an appeal.
I'm not sure that could or should be done. But we do need an explanation from the crown.
Prosecutor Marie Balogh told the court there was no reasonable prospect of conviction on the serious charges, but she refused to comment afterwards.
What led to those charges being laid in the first place? Perhaps, instead of the opposition's contention that Jaffer received preferential treatment, he was actually treated more harshly because of his status.
Unless the crown talks, we may never know and - in this case, at least - we should.
I know plea arrangements are done every day. But this case is different.
First of all it involved a former government M-P who's married to a
current cabinet minister. Secondly, you have to the comments of the
judge.
In handing down the fine and accepting the plea, Justice Doug Maunder said he would not interfere with the joint submission by the
Crown and defence. But he also said he hopes Jaffer can recognize a
break when he sees one.
One would like to think Jaffer was treated no differently than anyone
else. But we need more information to determine whether that is so. As
it stands now, I think most Canadians would say if there was enough
evidence to warrant serious charges, there should have at least been a
trial.
